1 Beyond Wrangler Dude used for "127 Hours" movie production ...
(Videography Article - October 5, 2010)

Russ Lasson, Color Mill's Colorist & Digital Cinema Specialist realized there was a built in advantage of designing the lab, in part, based around the on set workflow. As part of the SI-2K camera package, HD Camera Rentals provided 1 Beyond Wrangler Dude stations. Color Mill's on set Data Managers used the Wrangler systems to playback video to verify recording. This was the first step of the QC process to flag any issues and notify the DIT of any problems. The Data Managers then copied each camera media chip to two hot swappable drives using onboard sum check software for verification. This was also done on set, or on location, using the Wrangler systems. The drives were then sent to Color Mill's lab while the original camera chips stayed with production, protecting the media by having it in two separate locations. Each chip was marked as an "Exposed (digital) Negative and stayed with the data manager until the chips were cleared by the lab for reuse.

To extend this on-set workflow to the Color Mill lab, 1 Beyond offload copy stations was set up in the facility. We treated each camera crew as a separate unit so two copy stations were built. By creating a checklist system and using sum check software to verify and log each step of archival, Color Mill added another layer of asset protection to the process. As a final measure, copies of the media archive were ultimately stored in three separate, physical locations.
